Problem-Solving Therapy
WHAT IS PROBLEM-SOLVING THERAPY? A problem is defined as a situation in which a person is unable to carry out initiatives that lead to an effective outcome in response to situations encountered in life that are perceived as obstacles. Therefore, an effective initiative must be undertaken in response to this situation we encounter. The inability to carry out this initiative may stem from ourselves and/or environmental factors. Apart from environmental factors, the obstacles we create ourselves may cause the thought that all paths to escape from this situation are closed to dominate our minds.

In fact, after a while, this thought may distance us from ourselves and lead us to fail to realize that we are the obstacle. As a result, we may fall into hopelessness with the belief that there is no escape from the problem we are in. At this very point, the tendency to blame environmental factors in order not to see the obstacles we have placed ourselves increases. Subsequently, the idea that the problem cannot be solved becomes reinforced, and this situation gradually increases the person’s hopelessness.
As always, it is necessary for the person to first become aware of their own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and then to develop coping mechanisms. This is where “Problem-Solving Therapy” is a process in which, with professional support, the person is helped to clearly define the problem, recognize themselves, and find solutions by gaining the necessary motivation for resolution.
